2014 was expected to be the year of wearable tech. But we haven’t seen anything like that yet. At the time, when Samsung launched its Galaxy Gear Smartwatch, Nike entered with its Fuelband and a recent announcement of iWatch by Apple, all are pointing towards the future of wearable technology, but still it is far away or not said to be a near future.
According to the research made by B2C, consumers who had bought wearable tech devices like Fitbit Flex for their own comfort, are now trying to get rid of them due to the lack of interest, Nike has already ended its production of Fuelband as it doesn’t meet with the user’s expectations and in spite of being the most discussed topic, general public are thinking that Google glass owners are creepy.
The above data shows that wearable tech needs some more time to enter the mainstream, which means we have to wait more to wear some devices, we actually have interest in.
Here are some reasons for why we need to wait more.
1. Wearable Tech is not efficient enough to serve the User’s Needs
Over 50% of Americans are considering wearable technology as a needless device. Even some are completely unaware of what the device is and how they can use it. People are performing their day to day activities since years like exercising, walking, sleeping, etc. without the need of data that tells them about how well they are doing and what they can improve it.
2. Wearable Tech Devices are Insecure
Wearing a gadget means telling the world that you own the particular device which might turn into an invitation for hackers and your data will become easily shareable to third parties. Google glass app development is facing a serious security risk due to which users can snap photos, shoot videos, locate the map publicly, but they have to compromise first with privacy.
3. Wearable Tech Lacks Style
Wearable tech is expensive and also lacks style which is the prime need of today’s generation. Users don’t like to spend their hundreds of dollars on outdated things.
4. Wearable Tech Devices Possess Short Battery Life and Take Much Time to Be Set Up
Even if the devices are available as per the demanded style, people will again deny adopting them as users don’t like to waste their time in setting the wearable tech devices and charging them again & again.
Conclusion
Wearable tech devices need some more security, privacy, style, durability, long term battery life and invisibility, and then only users tend to adopt them with a keen interest. People like to track each and every aspect of their lives with the help of a gadget that is comfortable and stylish enough to wear on a daily basis. Wearable gadgets are yet not ready to cater the current needs of users due to which they will take more time to get ready in every manner.
