After smartphone and apps, the next big thing is: Internet of Things (IoT). We know that, but we don’t know who will rule this world – either it’s Google or Apple or the Windows. We don’t know much about Windows, but we have heard many plans from the tech Giants, Google and Apple. Let’s see what they are planning to become a next ruler of IoT app development world.
Apple’s Plans for IoT
Apple is already there with Siri – an in-built Intelligent Assistant enabling devices to speak natural language voice commands. The image below will explain you better: the future of yours with Siri.

Last month (June, 2015), Apple announced Homekit accessories for building smart home devices.
Apple’s products include iHome, Incipio, GridConnect, and iDevices. These products will allow you to control outlets. For e.g. your door lock is connected to bluetooth. You can lock or unlock it using Siri. Another example is a line of sensors will collect data based on quality of air, temperature, air pressure, humidity, energy, water consumption, etc. A WiFi-enabled Garage door opener works with HomeKit. Likewise, there are many examples that will pop up time-by-time with the spread of IoT app development.
Google’s Plans for IoT
Google enters the IoT world with Brillo and Weave – software products powering IoT devices.

Brillo
We know how the world changed after the release of Android. It was welcomed by all. It became a common OS of everyone’s smartphone.
After Android, Google’s next plan is for Brillo – a new Android operating system for Internet of Things. Like Android, it is expected that Brillo will also change the IoT scenario. Android users easily get set with Brillo as being another Android system it has many commonalities. Not only users, but Android app developers will also easily get familiar with this new OS.
Weave
Weave comes along with Brillo. Weave provides a common language to growing number of smart devices. For e.g. smart devices will take action based on their language like ovens can change temperatures, doors can be locked or unlocked, etc. Weave allows smart devices to connect with each other as well as with your smartphone.
Now who is going to win
Let’s see what reports and surveys are saying about this. 48% consumers are aware of Apple’s IoT devices, while only 13% are familiar with Google’s IoT products – according to ThroughTek Survey. Reports say that Apple is a top recognizable brand for Internet of Things. But developers’ opinion is going on an opposite direction.
Recently, BusinessWire published an article based on New Harbour Research Study for IoT. According to this research, developers mentioned Android as the best OS to go for IoT app development.

According to developers, iOS has fewer chances to rule on IoT world.
Conclusion
I think both Apple with HomeKit and Google with Brillo and Weave – are trying their best to give users a comfort with IoT development. Surveys and reports are favouring both these OS in one or the other way. As IoT is yet to arrive, it’s difficult to say who is going to win. So, it’s better to wait for the right time to come and take the decision for who will be the winner?
