While many would say that the 12billion that Samsung recently lost was ironical; a careful analysis will reveal otherwise. The apparent dip in sales of its flagship is known to everyone. While methodical analysis of the scenario would reveal specific objective points; the attitude of the firm hold the key in the long term and this is what is exactly happening to Samsung at this moment. As far as android app development companies are concerned, there will not be many repercussions because if people want to buy a flagship android phones they will buy other brands.
Samsung accelerated android-
Samsung might have copied Apple but the one thing it did was to create a substantial market for android phones and android app development. While many would say that Samsung innovated in many ways, it will be highly contextual. Yes, if changing the market to adapt multiple screen sizes is concerned, Samsung has created various segments of users which are now targeted by other Android OEMs as well. There is a whole line of display density according to which the android app development market got segregated. But Samsung did not pull it up to the next level.
The need for innovation and market intelligence-
Samsung has been instrumental in saying that they have paid more importance to market data and the demand of the consumers as compared to Apple. This might hold true for creating a market for various screen sizes but it stopped look beyond. Other Android OEM manufacturers were also competitive and if Samsung really had the attitude to stay at top then it would have spent time on working on its shortfalls. The plastic chassis and Touchwizz needs rejuvenation not extra features. But perfection is something that Samsung might have sidelined while developing the S4 and other OEMs are reaping the advantage out of it. Infact Samsung’s fear of Sony’s waterproof phones is no longer hidden as the company has also announced its own version of waterproof galaxy S4. This is simply disheartening for early adopters of the galaxy S4 as they would not be able to flaunt a waterproof phone while new buyers would have this feature, despite carrying almost the same handsets.
Android has travelled a long journey and has attracted many OEMs to make android powered devices. In midst of this companies cannot take their market position for granted. But more importantly an attitude towards building greater and useful innovations must be the central priority for long term success.
